„Kühn Plays Galante“
Piano: Joachim Kühn Clarinet: Rolf Kühn and Louis Sclavis
Bass: Bruno Chevillon Percussion: Christian Lillinger
How best to describe the piano-playing of Joachim Kühn: virtuosic, muscular and full of energy; sometimes ecstatic, fascinating in its naked force… but can we find anything genteel in it? Kühn plays galant? No, that's not a misprint, but rather an indication of the special treat that audiences at the Kurt Weill Festival are being offered: Joachim Kühn has taken a close look at Kurt Weill's „Marie Galante“ in order to present this special arrangement.
It is a real delight for us to have won Joachim Kühn for the upcoming festival, as the tight schedule of this phenomenal musician takes him to major festivals in all corners of the globe. The fact that he is returning to Dessau (which can be loosely described as a suburb of his hometown of Leipzig, at least from the perspective of a megacity such as his new home Paris) was perhaps the impulse for him to invite his brother Rolf, one of the most important people in his life and indeed the person who first introduced him to the wonderful world of jazz. And of course the three other musicians on stage will help turn this concert into a real Festival highlight. Clarinettist Louis Sclavis and bassist Bruno Chevillon are from France, whilst Christian Lillinger on drums is one of Germany's outstanding jazz talents. Don't miss this one!
