„La Reine – The Queen“
A stroll from Notre Dame to Sacré Cœur
Organ: Anne Horsch
Even though it may sound a little odd, Paris is truly an organist's paradise. With a tradition stretching back many centuries, it was particularly in the middle of the 19th century that France's dynamic and bustling capital city became a Mecca for church music. At that time the famous organ builder Cavaillé-Coll opened up new tonal possibilities in organ playing, which in turn inspired composers to fresh flights of fancy. The result was a spate of brilliant organ music at the turn of the century; the organ, everyone agreed, was indeed the Queen of instruments! And what a treat for us that Anne Horsch, an artist whose studies in Paris have given her a deep insider's knowledge of French organ music, will perform at the Kurt Weill Festival. She intends to lead us along an imaginary ecclesiastical trail from Notre Dame to Sacré Cœur. Just close your eyes in the Johanniskirche, and you will be transported in the blink of an eye from Dessau to Paris.
