Helen Schneider, actress and singer, is a dedicated and passionate artist. She was the first performer from the West to appear in east Berlin’s Palast der Republik, and at the end of the 1970s and early 80s found fame on both sides of the Wall. In a career lasting over 30 years she has released countless albums, appeared in cinema and television productions, been an acclaimed musical star in Germany, Austria and the USA, and has even found time to write children’s books. Always developing new projects and displaying limitless versatility, there really does seem to be nothing she cannot turn her hand to. With her current CD and programme, both entitled Dream a Little Dream, Helen Schneider offers listeners more soothing tones. However, her career is anything but relaxed - upon its release the album shot up to number two on Germany’s jazz chart, and was praised by critics as “pure aural sensuality”.
Many of the melodies selected from the classic repertoire known as the “Great American Songbook” will be familiar to music-lovers, issuing from the pens of Cole Porter, George Gershwin and Kurt Weill. With the support of the famous German jazz trumpeter Till Brönner, who supervised the album’s creation as one of the producers, the singer offers music tinged with nostalgia, yet given a modern infusion of wonderful jazz rhythms ranging from swing to bossa nova. At the closing concert, Helen Schneider’s powerful and flexible voice will be given ideal support by her outstanding trio.
