Marienkirche Dessau

A reunion with Helen Schneider

Music by Kurt Weill, Charles Ives
and Philip Glass

Vocals: Helen Schneider
Guitar: Jo Ambros
Double Bass: Oliver Potratz

She was “Sally Bowles” in Cabaret alongside Hildegard Knef; she shone as “Evita” and was lauded as “Norma Desmond” in Sunset Boulevard. Of course, we mean Helen Schneider, the celebrated singer from Brooklyn, who carries the beauty and pain of New York in her heart, transforming it into magical sounds. Long devoted to Kurt Weill, she seems almost fated to perform the immortal melodies of a man who, driven from Dessau, found a new home in New York. But her voice is also ideally suited to the dazzling colours of the “minimal music” of pioneering American composer Philip Glass.
