Library & Media Centre
The Kurt-Weill-Centre maintains a library with a focus on the music and culture of classic modernism. Along with sheet music, predominantly by Kurt Weill, one finds mainly primary and secondary literature on the subjects of music, musicology, literature, dramatics as well as painting and fine arts. The collection of the American theatre scholar Henry Marx (1912 1994), which was passed on to the Kurt-Weill-Centre after his death, marks an important fandament to the library.
The library contains almost 8.500 units including roughly 850 CDs, DVDs and videos. There are no regular opening hours, but the library is open to interested visitors upon request. However, the library’s inventory is for reference only and cannot be checked out at any time.
Furthermore, the Kurt-Weill-Centre contains an archive of the Kurt-Weill-Gesellschaft . It houses the collections of Dr. Franz Willnauer and Anna Krebs. The latter contains documents on the reception history of Kurt Weill and Lotte Lenya in Germany. It has been and continues to be complemented with reviews, play bills and programs of productions of Kurt Weill’s work in the German-speaking area since 1990. Along with original play bills, Programmes and photos, the archive of the Kurt-Weill-Gesellschaft e.V. also contains some autograph letters by Kurt Weill, Ferrucio Busoni, Engelbert Humperdinck, Lotte Lenya, Paul Green and others. A further development of the archive is in progress.
